Laura Melnicoff, cellist, is a native of New York City. Growing up on the Upper West Side, she took music lessons and private cello study at the Elaine Kaufmann Cultural Center, and attended the Special Music School and LaGuardia Arts High School. She holds a B.Mus from Mannes College the New School for Music, and a Masters in Cello Performance from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. She has participated music festivals and performed in major halls throughout the United States, Canada, Israel, Ukraine, Germany, and Spain. Active in the classical, klezmer, and Jewish rock music communities, she currently plays in the orchestra at the National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish; as well as her jazz eclectica band The New Moon All Stars Party Band; and the Jewish rock band Zayah. Laura is passionate about fostering and facilitating creative expression, and is the Director of Women's programming for the Jewish creative community Hevria.
