Laura Melnicoff, cellist, is a native of New York City. Growing up on the Upper West Side, she took music lessons and private cello study at the Elaine Kaufmann Cultural Center, and attended the Special Music School and LaGuardia Arts High School. She holds a B.Mus from Mannes College the New School for Music, and a Masters in Cello Performance from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. She has participated music festivals and performed in major halls throughout the United States, Canada, Israel, Ukraine, Germany, and Spain. As a freelance musician, Laura regularly plays for events in the New York area and beyond, as well as frequent contracts with the National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene. Her recent first foray onto Broadway was in the Off-Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish. As an educator, she maintains a private studio, and teaches music in the classroom at various Jewish schools. Laura is passionate about fostering and facilitating creative expression, and is a member of the leadership committee for the Jewish creative community Hevria.
